my parents divorcing

My mom informed me this morning that we are moving back to home but without my father. I knew there are problems but I didn't expect this to happen. Why can't people just work things out instead of letting problems get out of control?

Ack duck duck, that's really sad. This must be a very difficult time for you. But to answer your question: sometimes people simply can't work things out. Sometimes working them out leads to the breakup. If two people really don't want to be together any more, there's not an awful lot you can do about it.

I was a little younger than you when my parents divorced. It was very upsetting, but honestly I think they made the right the decision. They were unhappy together and they were much happier apart. I didn't like the fact that the family home was broken up, but I wanted my mum and dad to be happy. If they couldn't be happy together, then it was better that they were apart and happy.

I know it's really hard to see it when you are in the middle of it, but it may turn out to be the right decision.

Where is 'home' ? Where are you moving to?

Sorry to hear it, duck. I've always found that divorce ends up being a lot harder on older kids rather than younger. Do you have any siblings?

No I don't have any brothers and sisters. Maybe something is wrong with me because I am not terribly upset by the whole situation.

Not at all. I was actually overjoyed when my parents got divorced (when I was 9), because it meant there'd be no more fighting. But I wasn't leaving one parent in a different country. Do you know yet when you'll be able to see your dad with this new arrangement?

I have no idea how this is going to work out or when we will actually move. It must be soon because my mom told me not to bother with school today which makes me think she will have me withdrawn today.

I'm sorry Duck. I hope things work out for all of you.

I was about 7 when my parents divorced. It didn't bother me because my father was a jerk.

Thank you everybody but I'm ok. It's not like I was ever close with my parents to begin with and I finally get to move back home.
