Summer job

Yeah, yesterday just went job hunting with friends for summer employment and stopped by OfficeMax. The guy there basically told us they really really needed employees, kind of desperately so I filled out an application last nite at like 11 PM. I get a call like 15 minutes ago this afternoon and I have an interview tomorrow at 9am. It makes me feel like I'm hot stuff, and retailers want my 3 years experience in customer service. :p

That's great that you got an interview so fast! I know it's just a summer job, but you might want to consider if you want to work in a place that admits to being severely understaffed. Might be a problem. You know, like booking a trip on a sinking ship. Then again, I bet there will be a great opportunity for getting lots of shifts and maybe even overtime.

I work third shift (10PM - 6AM) stocking at a grocery store. I also got interviewed right away, too bad real jobs aren't like that...

Hopefully the job treats you well Fresh.

Yeah, but he's not.

That seems to be the fatal flaw in the plan.

I heard somewhere that fishing in the northern waters around Alaska is pretty much the most dangerous job you could have in the fishing industry.

Basically the guy was desperate for a copy guy at OfficeMax and drilled me with questions seeing if I was able and ready for this high turnover job. I don't know if I am personally, but I think it'll pay very well and handsome so I told him I am still very much interested and the customer service won't be a problem and I'm still interested in learning the technical operations of all the machines. He gave me a drug test form (which is a pretty sure safe bet that he'll offer me a hire if I pass) and that was that. Woohoo! And I turned in 9 more applications to retail places today. But if OfficeMax offers me more than my highest paying job of $8.29 I'm going to take that one quickly. Copy and printing can't be too bad, can it? I've dealt with rapid pace at Jewel, so I think I'll be ok..right?

You might find you'll love it. Years ago, I found I have a knack for organization and high volume processing paperwork and I enjoy that kind of work. I think it's a part of my OCD. It's definitely not for everyone; like everything else there are those who are really good at it, those who can pass, and those who just don't have the stuff.

Good luck!
