An aqquaintance offered to take me to Iran while I was visiting Pakistan. Through the backroads as it was described, without need for a passport.

I thought about it for a minute and politely declined the invite. Only because I like to have my head attached to my body though.

The photos would have surely been spectacular.

Yep, looks like it is gone. I have a Picasa account and neither the root public folder or the pics are available any more.
