If you could choose just one sporting event
one of the things on my "to do before I die list" is to attend a major sporting event. By major, I mean things like the Olympics or the Superbowl. Or the Kentucky Derby, but I don't know how I feel about that now ('nother thread).
I think I've been to maybe one major league baseball game as a kid, and I've been to college events, but nothing big. So, what do you think would be the most fun for a non-sporting person like me? What would your choice be?

well, would that be worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime trip? For that amount of money, maybe the Olympics would be a better bet--you could go to more than one event.

Hmm. In past years I would probably have said the ACC Basketball Tournament. (I used to take vacation time from work to watch it.) But it's not as much fun since they added mroe schools.
I think I'll go with Wimbledon. If your goal is to be at an Important Event, then you're looking at the Superbowl. Possibly the World Series. But either of those would be very boring for somebody who's not a fan of the sport. If you're more interested in something exciting to watch, then the Olympics may be it. |

It's impossible for me to choose on your behalf, as sport varies so much between our two countries. For me it would definitely be the World Cup final. You don't know who will be playing of course, but the atmosphere would be electric.
Or Ascot Ladies' Day. Heels and a hat and just pray it's not windy! My ultimate holiday destination would have to be the Tour de France - planning my itinerary to cross paths two or three times over the course of a week. Preferably one of the stages that crosses into Italy, as I've never been to that part of France.

If you could choose just one sporting event...
...to drop a bomb on, killing everyone inside, thus improving humanity? Probably the Super Bowl.

Maybe, Flint, but not the one with Tom Petty. Better to do the one with Timberlake and Jackson.

As a soccer/football fan I'm supposed to say the World Cup final. But international soccer just doesn't compare for quality and excitement with club soccer IMO. Maybe that is because I'm American and our team is about 3 more World Cups away from even coming close to a respectable performance. I'd rather go to an Arsenal vs a major rival game.

No doubt about this one:
Tennis, a grand slam. US Open, Wimbeldon or the French open. The Australian open isn't as good, but you'd get to see Australia! It'll cost you a fortune, but it is certainly worth it!

Well, if your club team is Chelsea I can understand why you would prefer international matches. 90 minutes of Chelsea's percentage ball and I want to slit my wrists.
![]() I go to our USMNT games when they're out west and I enjoy them, but the quality is nowhere near where it should be. Edu... ok Adu... could be great if he'd quit believing he was great Altidore... head to Europe and get some polish. Skill is abundant Bradley... Oh yeah Feilhaber... The makings are there Demerit... How that fucker Onyewu even gets a start ahead of him I'll never understand. The future is bright but the national think tank is fucked.

I'd choose the mens final at Wimbeldon. I like the tennis. A deciding ashes match would be awesome too.

I can't even think straight about Feilhaber, any time I try to analyze him, I just think of that rocket on the volley in the Gold Cup last year. Instant man crush.
And don't hate on Chelsea, we'll look prettier after we buy Messi for 160 mil or whatever ![]() |

As much as I like Messi, he wouldn't last half a season in the EPL. His muscles and tendons are made from wet cardboard. Besides that, he wouldn't fit with the Chelsea style of play. For all the talk of "playing sexy", Chelsea is a team based on power in the middle. Adding one flair player wouldn't change that.
