Your Best Rock Concert Story

Or the worst. Or the weirdest. Whatever you want to share.

I was just surfing, came across a news item saying that Led Zeppelin might tour next year...maybe not...maybe without Plant...whatever. I used to be nuts for Zeppelin; of course, that was in my Party Girl days. I'd still like to see 'em if it wouldn't cost me half my college tuition to get in the door.

That reminded me of another experience I'd had while attempting to see Page & Plant several years ago...what was that, 1995, I think?

<insert wavy video effect, like on Wayne's World...>

January 1995 -- Juni stands outside the Boot Country shop at 6 a.m. as snow spits from the sky. It's her BIRTHDAY and by virtue of having the day off, she's been elected to stand in line for Page & Plant tickets. Got 'em!

April 1995 -- Time for the show! The hubby and me go to pick up his weird friend Phil, who is going to the concert with us. Phil informs us he hasn't eaten all day but has been at the pub all afternoon. Phil isn't in real good shape to go to a concert. We park the car (it costs $10) and hike the mile or two to the concert hall. Just up these winding concrete steps from the street to the coliseum entrance, almost there, puff-puff...Hey, where's Phil? And why did the crowd of people walking upstairs with us suddenly disappear?

Phil fell down the steps. Everyone has stopped to look at him. A drunk woman who claims to be a nurse says she can't find a pulse and he's DEAD! Another woman screams.

He's not dead, but it's a near thing. The ambulance comes to take him away, we scalp our tickets, and spend the evening pacing the hospital corridors and trying to contact Phil's next of kin.

I think Phil owes me a Zeppelin ticket, dammit.

He's still alive, but not much brighter.

And then there was that trippy trip down to see the Dead in Louisville. How many times can a Deadhead drive around the Gene Snyder Highway before he figures out what exit to take for his motel room? Let's find out. Wheeeee!

I haven't been to a concert in ages. I can't even remember the last one I saw. I think maybe it was Stone Temple Pilots before they hit the big time, and they gave a freebie show out on somebody's farm. That was a good show. Wish I could remember more of it.
