Why My Hubby's So Great

He can be a real jerk sometimes, but has his awesome moments too and I think I don't write stuff like this often enough.

I bitch because he's been "spoiled" by having me home all the time for the last 10 years, and now that I'm in school he's helping me out more. It's not easy to change 10 years of ingrained habits though, so it's been gradual. One nice thing he's been doing lately is going out to the store for me if I need something, especially late at night, and not complaining. Like tonight I needed dishwasher soap - like I had NONE - and our daughter wanted a snack to share in class tomorrow...a few things. And I asked him, since he was going, to fetch me some brewskis.

Got sidetracked trying to organize the family room. We've got a bunch of stuff from my mom's condo to go through. My mom died last Dec. and we're just now starting to make some progress. He loves looking at old photos and is just as interested in my family history as in his own - which is one reason right there why he's so great. We spent a good two hours going through a box of my grandmother's photo albums and scrapbooks.

Little while ago - like 1 a.m. - we got through it all and were feeling all...I dunno...sentimental and sad, but also proud...the responsibility of being the family historian weighs on us.

And I asked him, did he get my beer? 'Cause after that, I really wanted one.

He forgot.

It's 1 a.m. I tried not to pout. I don't need to be drinking this late anyhow, I should just go to bed.

But he just left to go get me some. Said, he's off tomorrow, he'll get up with the kids, go ahead and have a few.

I guess he understands how my heart still aches about my mom. I've got nobody left. I miss her. I miss my daddy too.

But I've got him. And damn, he's a good one.

Lucky you for having a great hubby.

I'm sorry about your Mum. I imagine the thought of Christmas without her is going to be tough for you. Keep your chin up. The kids will make the day special for you anyway.

Bless him for understanding.
I'm going through one of my periodic panic attacks about losing my parents. One of my Mum's friends is watching her husband die right in front of her eyes from something the doctors still can't quite diagnose. This man is younger than my Dad and her son is about my age.

It scares me so much.
Perhaps I won't feel like this when I've been living with them for a month - all I can say is I'm thankful for the chance to be closer to them for a time. And that I'll never have to look back with regret and worry that they didn't know how much I loved them.

Well.

I have found that no matter how many panic attacks and how much worry I have had over losing various relatives over the years, it did absolutely nothing to ease the pain when they actually did pass.

The only thing you can do is work every day at making sure you're as close as can be so there are no regrets. Oh, there will always be regrets. But few. Mom and I were close, but after the intial pain dulled a bit, that just helped me feel more like she never left.
