The first Beatles song I heard

Hello, Goodbye

I was three when "Hello, Goodbye" was released as a single. I can't remember how old I was when I heard it. I know I was a young lad, so I might have been 8 or 9. We didn't play pop radio in my house and I know I didn't know it was the Beatles, or that there was much significance to the Beatles. All I knew was that it was excellent. I was immediately struck by the song, it had my full attention, and I can still remember the moment. We used to have threads "seriousness that changed you" and "silliness that changed you", this was a musical moment that changed me.

My parents only owned Abbey Road, and I loved Octopus's Garden from that. It was released in '69, but my memories are probably from '71-'72 when I was 4-5.

I remember playing/singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "I Saw Her Standing There" in second or third grade. Let's see, '63, I would have been about 7.

"Oh she was just 17 . . . you know what I mean . . . and the way she walked was way beyond compare . . ."

I want to hold your hand, driving home from college on a Friday night. It struck me as a simple love song, without lust or double entendre that were predominant in pop music then.

"I want to hold your hand"my sisters and I would sing it while we washed the dishes and we would blow up the rubber gloves to offer our "hands " to each other

"Barbara Ann" and "She Loves You" were both on a cassette tape we listened to in the car when I was 5 or 6... except they were covers by Alvin and the Chipmunks.

My parents hated the beatles so there was none of that in the house growing up. I know I heard some of their songs early on but I couldn't tell you which one and when. I don't really care for them myself so I don't pay much attention even now.

My parents listened to country... scarred me for life with it actually...

I think the first Beetles songs I heard might have been in the Stg. Pepper's movie, saw it in the theater age 6.

The artists I distinctly remember in my dad's car were Mingus, Davis, and Coltrane.
