My ankle hurts :(

I rolled it very badly on Sunday night (10 days ago) when we were packing. it's still swollen and today it hurts more than ever. But I can still use it OK. I'm on the RICE. But I don't like being still, and I don't like having my feet up, so I'm moaning and whining here.

Are you sure you didn't actually break anything? If it doesn't set properly to heal, it might never completely stop hurting. I'd get it x-rayed just to be sure.

Surely it woulda hurt more and not be able to use it if I broke something? x-rays et al is expensive and just today they moved the goalposts on our insurance. I did mow the lawn today, which is quite demanding on the ankles....

Well, on the one hand it's absolutely possible to fracture it and still be able to use it. But on the other hand, I don't know if it's possible in this scenario for it to be broken badly enough that a brace/cast would help it stay in position when it wouldn't otherwise. If that makes sense.

If there is a tiny broken off piece of bone, however, that could float into the wrong place and be very bad indeed. Is there bad bruising too, or just the swelling?

Could be cracked and still use it, although painfully.
Considering how hyper Monster is, a sprain would probably take a long time to get better.

Be careful.

A couple of years ago,my sister developed RSD in her leg after not attending to a sprain. Not that I think you will but this condition is still a mystery. Your body forgets how to stop sending pain signals to the injured parts of the body. Even after the injury is healed the nerves still send pain signals.

Fortunately, she is not as bad as some. It does spread however.

Hmm... I am getting a little concerned that my ankle is not rejecting the ice -It SHOULD get too painful to keep the ice on there -that hasn't happened

umm scary. Do not leave the ice on there longer than would be necessary,if your body isn't responding as it should then the ice will make it worse, damaging the nerves further, if they are damaged.

But then I am not fit to diagnose. I would go to a doctor asp.

RSD is a very rare syndrome and I am sure you don't have it but if it isn't responding to ice I wouldn't do it, but I hate to say that because, what the hell do I know.

I am only over reacting or reaching because of what happened to my sister.

Here is information on the problem of ice if the nerves are damaged.
http://painisafourletterword.blogspo...t-be-used.html

The problem is ice is standard procedure for injuries, and no one can assume that it would develop into something else. When does one say, or doctors say, if the ice isn't working then stop? Hopefully when you go to see a doctor they don't go a head and ice it after you tell them icing it doesn't work, but if it is swollen they will. If there is something else wrong with it then every time you kill the pain with ice without bringing the swelling down there is nerve damage.

I don't mean to be an alarmist but what if I didn't say anything at all. I guess it is just something to watch for. If it doesn't get better, ( but I am sure it will) then at least you won't be guessing for months like most people do with nerve damage.

?

go get an x ray, maybe it is broken
