Someone Else's Favorite Band

My mind wandered last night to the surprising number of big concerts I've attended because they were someone else's favorite and I was obliged to tag along. In chronological order:

Foo Fighters
George Strait
Pet Shop Boys
Legendary Pink Dots

In addition, I saw Sugar Ray only because a friend and I loved the band that was opening for them, and she convinced me the 20 minute set would still be worth the bigger band's ticket price.

Do other people do this a lot, or is it an indicator of how much I subsumed my own personality in my youthful relationships? As far as tickets I've bought for myself, it's been musical theatre or stand up comedy almost every time.

I have only been to see two performances based on other people's likes (singers, not bands) and on both I tagged along for the company and the sense of occasion.
Morrissey - when I spent most of the time in the bar - and Prince.

I tend to be the dragger, not the dragged.

I can think of only one. Darius Rucker. It wasn't a bad concert, and the tickets were free and I got a ride there and back, so it was all good.

Oh, and the Steve Miller Band, a long time ago, but those tickets were free too, and I liked Steve Miller.

I usually like the same stuff, but The Grateful Dead X 35+ shows was jinx's favorite... not mine... still I liked them.... and Dave Matthews later in life... both with jinx and now Amanda...

so yeah, I do it all the time. I make them go to football games.

I took this girl to see Rick Springfield, but, only because The Romantics were opening, and they had a song on the radio I kinda liked.

Yes, I actually am ashamed.

Never. Maybe I'm a heartless bastard.

Oh, I just remembered another one! I went to a full, four-hour production of Don Giovanni at the urging of my friend who is super into opera. I literally dozed off a bit around hour 3, it was terribly boring.

...I think she was Cecil's girl daughter.
