A Food WTF?

I found this recipe for Squirrel Cider, but it's just the ingredients, not the instructions. Now it's clearly not a recipe for making cider, it must be for cooking squirrels. What would you do with these ingredients, other than make the garbage can heavier.

Using a pot:
Cook squirrels with salt and pepper
Remove from pot
Cook ham
Remove from pot
Add Flour and butter
Make roux
Add cider slowly and cook until desired consistency
Add hot cream, cooked ham, cooked squirrel back in the pot and simmer
Add Maggi Sauce to taste.

Serve over potatoes. Voila

My guess is you section the squirrel in the same way you would a rabbit - albeit much smaller.
Coat the squirrel in flour and seasoning and fry in butter until browned. Possibly with the ham, although as that's already cooked it could be intended as a later addition.

Simmer in cider and Maggi sauce, then remove from the heat and add cream.

Just my take on it.

OK, not ham though, ham fat, which I figure is for frying or browning in.

Not ham fat...it says fat ham. As in, not lean. With a thick border of fat. For flavoring.

You could substitute bacon grease.

OK, I'll buy that. I was hoping bbro would figure it out and invite us all to supper, then we could visit Lola Bunny's new digs.

Sometimes, when we've had fried apples, I'll take the juice from the leftover apples, and use it over a nice pork chop the next day. It's pretty good, but, a little goes a long way.

I'd imagine squrl in cider would be sorta kinda like that.

Perhaps.

It sounds good to me. I've eaten a lot of squirrel and I love it. I think this recipe would be good for introducing first time wild game tasters because they wouldn't realize it until you told them. Kind of what we do with with road kill stew on the first day of deer camp
