Best Poconos sites for snow tubing?
I'm a winter person, but not what you'd call particularly athletically coordinated. (My peak was a local Little League all-star game appearance at age 11, and it's been downhill for two decades since.) Therefore, I hadn't really thought about the local ski resorts, figuring that learning to ski or snowboard would likely be (a) quite expensive and (b) potentially quite painful.
There were a few times that I thought to myself, "If I could just SLED down those hills, that'd be perfect. I had no idea that you _could_ do that until a few weeks ago, when I saw a coupon for some ski resort that mentioned "snow tubing" and my eyes lit up. A little research showed that Camelback, Big Boulder/Jack Frost, Blue Mountain, Shawnee Mountain, Tanglwood, and Alpine Mountain all offer snow-tubing. I can't say that I know anyone personally who's a skier, so I have no frame of reference as to which ones are better. Anyone around here have any comments? |

Don't forget Spring Mountain.
No trip to the Poconos needed. (unless your real objective is a weekend getaway with the Mrs. to the Poconos). It's in Montco, and I think they finally got the kinks worked out of the tubing hill so they aren't killing/turning into paraplegics as many people since the first year they put it in ...

Huh! I'd never heard of it, and it'd certainly cut an hour each way off the drive. I'd probably try a day trip before I'd try a weekend getaway to any of these, but if it's under an hour from here and they offer weeknight tubing, my wife and I could probably ride there many nights after work.
Stupid question: They do have a lift to the top of the tubing area, right? (EDIT: I'm a dope, I just found the site map that says they have two tubing lifts. Now to find a suitable helmet...) Last edited by vsp; 09-23-2003 at 02:32 PM. |
