Searching for jerk chicken

If I was in suburban Philly and I wanted good Jamaican jerk chicken... where would I go?

(I know about the Jamaican Jerk Hut on South St., but I don't want to deal with going into the city if I don't have to.)

There's a mom 'n pop store in Norristown that advertises Jamaican Jerk Chicken on it's window ...

Stanbridge and Airy, I think.

Look knuckelhead, if I'd wanted to google it I would have, but one of the reasons I keep you monkeys around is to save me having to look everything up.

So, that being said...

Never heard of Digital City before. I tried the link, and out of the 15, eight are out for being in Philly itself, two more for being in Jersey, and one for being in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (Sir Guy's is a fine restaurant and pub, I've eaten there myself and probably will again this summer, but how it turned up on a search of Philadelphia restaurants I'll never know.)

Of the four remaining, Victory Brewing Company has a jerk chicken grinder, but not an entree. The Drafting Room doesn't appear to have it on its current menu. Bahama Breeze has some potential: they have jerk chicken sandwiches, salmon and shrimp, and "Jamaican chicken" (whatever the difference may be there), though they are a chain and their menu is sans pricing. The Horizons Cafe... well, remind me to remember just how far Willow Grove is.

Well TS, if you're gonna be like that, then I ain't telling ya!

This method of cooking pork and chicken dates back to the Carib-Arawak Indians who inhabited Jamaica. After capturing an animal and thoroughly cleaning and gutting it, the Indians placed it in a deep pit lined with stones and covered with green wood, which, when burned, would smoke heavily and add to the flavor. But first, the carcass was "jerked" with a sharp object to make holes, which were stuffed with a variety of spices. The holes also allowed heat to escape without loss of moisture. (Source)

Jeff, Willow Grove is probably 45 minutes from you.

Digital City (apparently it's now called AOL City Guide) is one the few good things that AOL has created. Lots of information along with reviews from folks like you and me. It's one of my main bookmarks.

I was just curious if there was anything that made it specifically Jamaican. Deer jerky is ambrosia.

It used to be exit 27 on the Turnpike. I have no fucking clue what the new exit number is, but it's the one after Fort Washington ... (not the fort washington ezpass only). Imagine that ... the state screwed up the turnpike. Again.

Oh, it's about an hour or a little more away from you, depending on how you make your way there ...

Willow Grove is now exit 343. And while it may be a bit more difficult to remember what exit you're getting off at, it makes the Turnpike as a whole safer b/c emergency crews can better figure where people are.

It takes me just over an hour to get to West Chester via the Boulevard, the Turnpike and 202. It shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to get to Willow Grove from West Chester...unless you drive under 60 miles an hour.

If you are getting to WC from NE Phila in that amount of time, you are interfering with the fabric of time and space and I will have to report you to the time police ...

My apartment to the Turnpike: 10-15 minutes
Turnpike from Rt. 1 to 202: 25-30 minutes
202 from KOP to West Chester: 20-30 minutes

Of course, this depends on traffic...

Your own estimate of commute from NE Phila to WC is between 55 min and 1hr 15 minutes. Willow Grove is only slightly closer to WC than you are ... I've spent years driving from this edge of Philly to West Chester (I have two degrees from there) in all varieties of traffic conditions, weather, and construction phases ... You have to count on an hour commute between WC and WG.
