Did I say yesterday that I'd posted the last space image? I didn't realize that Eros was about to be the news item of the day. (To make up for it, I'll post two images today.)
How remarkable is it that we've managed to land on this asteroid? It's 196,000,000 miles away and only 21 miles long. They say they think Shoemaker landed on it going 5 MPH - probably made simpler by its small field of gravity. And it's only the fifth celestial body that we've ever landed on.
What's more, Shoemaker only cost $225 million. (Unmanned space exploration is the only way to go... for now.)
