suggestion

Shit, I had a really, really good suggestion; better than my last one. And now I don't remembver what it was.

Damn

Oh yeah! I remember now. Hmm maybe it isn't really, really good. But here it is:

Ever wonder who the biggest thread killer is? Why can't we have a column under each post next to "thread starter" that says "thread killer"? Or it could be next to your personal post count.

Would that be helpful? Ya know, another thing to rag on someone about:

OMG, this is the 129th thread you've killed. *pointing finger*

BTW, not PUI. Can there be an HTML tag that goes [pissdrunk]xxxx[/pissdrunk]?

So that makes the above a "suicide post?" :p

i think this sounds like a really cool idea. would we have a thread to nominate and vote for thread killers, or would this just be a responsibility we throw on UT - 'cuz i don't think he is going to want to do that.

Let's arbitrarily say that a thread has to have had no replies for a week to count as 'dead'. (A few days is probably more realistic, but we can tweak numbers later.)

The 'thread killer' (or, rather, the person who gets the 'kill') would be the last person to have posted.

So it would be a fairly simple bit of mysql: find the number of threads with no new posts in the past week & in which person y had posted last. It could probably be done in one query by someone who knows more about mysql/vB than I.

except that the person who gets the kill isn't necessarily always the last to post. I hope to win this contest.

The last person to post didn't necessarily kill the thread. Many threads end with a good rebuttal/summary which can sort of tidy up the whole thread such that no one is inclined to add anything else.
