China will do anything to get the Olympics, even if it takes painting the grass green for the visiting Olympic committee.

Personally, I think China should kiss the world's ass. However, they DID give the '80 Olympics to Moscow, so...

Secretly, I want Beijing to get the 2008 Olympics. That way, it gives Baltimore-Washington a better chance of getting the 2012 Olympics. If they go to Toronto in '08, it'll be a while before N. America gets them again.

Salt Lake City had a better idea -- spend the money that would otherwise be spent painting grass and such to simply bribe Olympic officials.

*laughs*

You know, that whole thing just ruined Utah's "squeaky clean" image for me.

On a side note, Utah is the only state that has death by shooting. Although I disagree with the death penalty, I think the shooting part is great!

Never mind me...I'm just a bit twisted. ;-)

I tried doing a quick search, but couldn't find anything. I don't hear much about executions out there. I would imagine it's been some time.

In a similar vein, Washington state still has an option for hanging. I believe about 4 or 5 years ago, a convicted child killer requested to be hung because that was how he killed his victim. He was granted this request.

Was it Gary Gilmore or do I have the wrong state?

Interesting coincidence, they did the same thing when they made the movie version "South Pacific". It sounded silly when I heard about it then and it still does.

This may very well have been the case. That was 24 years ago, so I'm wondering if anyone has been sent to death in Utah since. But he was the first person to be executed after the death penalty ban was lifted in the US.
