Engineering Help
How do you measure "slightly?"
I asked Whrilpool for help about a Crosely ac I bought. This is my first question. I've tried to install per your instructions. I have a question. Can anyone tell me at what angle the unit shoud be when finished? Should it be level or with a little outside tilt? Thanks busterb The reply. Thank you for visiting the Whirlpool website, we appreciate hearing from you. Once the air conditioner is installed, the back should be slightly tilted down if installed in a window. Whirlpools value you as a consumer and we appreciate your business. My reply. Thanks, but I'm a bit confused as how to measure "slightly." Is that kind of like when your wife "slightly" has a small accident with the car and totals the thing? BusterB ![]()

"Slightly" is the level at which built up condensation drips off the back of the unit rather than pooling on your windowsill and causing it to rot.
Probably about 2.5 degrees. (I don't really know. I just made that up.)

I install my window air conditioners with a five degree down angle so as to drain the condensate and rain. Most of them already have that angle built in from the top and bottom rails being positioned in the proper place.
Uh, this IS a window unit, correct? If it's a wall unit, then you have to do your own levelling prior to installation, but five degrees is still a good starting point. If it doesn't drain easily, add to the angle until it does. Brian (resident handyman) |

Last shot from Whrilpool.
Dear Mr. BusterB: Thank you for your reply. Once the brackets are properly installed, the unit will have the properly tilt once rested on the brackets as we do not have specific measurements on how far the unit should be tilted. The unit will operate the same if it is not tilted at all.

Brian hit it. Enough to make the water run out and not in.
