Given their circumstances, they consider it worth the risk. There's a decent enough chance that they won't be jailed or deported, so it's not something they would "know" for sure.

Hopefully, the new immigration bill will pass, so a lot of this anxiety will be alleviated. Then they'll just have to worry about coming up with $5000 to pay the fine.

If you were at the alter and he said, Sorry I'm late for the wedding but I'm a criminal and had to dodge the feds. Wouldn't you have some trepidation about starting a family, with the sword of Damocles hanging over your head?

They also have to go home, learn English and wait in line to come back. Maybe the Churches that were so anxious to shield them will pay the $5k?

I don't understand the point of your scenario. U.S. citizens marry undocumented immigrants very often, for whatever personal reasons.

Only the heads of households would have to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if the Churches helped people out with the fines.
