If they are hesitant about eternity in heaven, offer a pool and tennis courts tomorrow.

Try reading The Mormon Church. I'll get the authors tomorrow.

How to repel Mormons:

We had a particularly agressive pair who were trying to convert people in my neighborhood. They even tried to talk their religion to me while I was walking for exercise. I told them I didn't believe in any of it and later complained to one of my neighbors about their attitude. When he said had encountered them as well, I suggested that he tell them he was gay. A few days later, he responded to a knock on his door, and there stood the pair, dripping wet from walking in the rain. He thought, "no way am I letting them in my house to drip all over the carpet", put on his most queenly expression, and told him he was gay while turning to one of them and saying, "You're cute!" Worked like a charm. They ran back to their car, drove out of the neighborhood and have never been back.

We have a Mormon sect near us that has mostly kept to themselves, very agreeable people usually. They are also one of the few groups around here pushing more liberal marriage laws. Editorial letters written by members can be read in our paper from time to time urging people to espouse the philosophy that marriage cannot be defined by only one definition. The key in all this is, however, that they want the laws passed with articles allowing the marriage of multiple persons. Sneaky

I think the marriage of multiple persons is perfectly fine...as long as they are all of legal age of consent. These guys marry *children* if they can. That's bad juju.

Our Missionarries from our area generally fare well.
I have noticed the biggest issue to be the unacceptance of talking of your own personal negative feelings. I understand partly because that could affect new converts.
Female missionarries and couples are very common.
Mostly the Church is made up of a lot of good hearted christians.
Like any religion you get people whom are wicked and hide out in various areas of the church.
We are instructed in biblical principal to consider the walk of our leaders when chosing to take thier advice.
By the way, visit wikipedia to research polygamy. Polygamy stopped being practiced before the state of Utah became a state. Polygamy also became a huge issue at this time about who to follow.
There are currently 2 active break offs of the original church and one that became extinct after 50 years this latter being one of the 2 that followed polygamy.. These happened after the death of Joseph Smith when trying to decide who was to be the new leader.
Jeff was not from Brigham Youngs Church of Jesus Christ, known widely through out the World.

In the current church, the only thing that truly matters is the hearts.
How many religions can kill the members by the teachings of hell, and the strict policies on being saved.

All religions have the power to give and to take life of each of it's members.
This maybe why the one true scripture to follow that can truly help all sufferers is to study the scriptures with all thine heart and all thine soul that thou mayest know if it be true.

I forgot. The teaching is that women will be Godesses, and Men will be Gods.

And I will never be a God.

So, Roost, you're saying polygamy doesn't exist among Mormons anymore?

Oh, and the one true Scripture, is your scripture and not the ones used by the rest of the Christians?

And you feel that posthumous baptism, of long dead fore-bearers, that apparently didn't want to be, is going to make a difference to them?

The answer to that would probably be "no true Scotsman".

Happy Monkey, if you are so wise, then what are the names of the break offs of the morman religion.
And when is the last time you read the old and new testament.
Like I said in my post, research Morman history through Wikepedia.
Even PBS has a great article on it. No, I would never share.
So was this enjoyable?
