I was under the impression--though like you, glatt, only through pop culture references--that they were supposed to be pretty chaste kisses, perhaps even on-the-cheek only.

when i was in elementary school, they had just stopped having one every year in the Field Day events.

The values of society shift over time.

At first, you have kissing booths at the county fair. Eventually you get glory-hole facials on the internet. It's a natural progression.

times change. we used to give baskets of flowers to our neighbors and dance the maypole on May Day, too.

and threw old shoes after people when they went away on long trips or moved.

we also got sick a lot and died by 40
