Both of them? I thought you were more partial to putting the bone in?

It's not ideal... and he drinks a ton of water because of it, but he lost 2lbs in the transition from a mostly chicken diet. That's scary in an 8lb cat... and he's only gained 1/2 of it back.
I'll try other stuff again soon now that he's actually eating the kibble (at $36 a bag ![]()

Like I said - I know you're responsible.
I was just shocked when food traffic lights came in here and I realised how damned salty cured meats were (usually at a red for humans, let alone cats). But I had the same issue with Dyl - of sainted memory - in that he'd pass up any dished food to Diz and only eat from my hand. And what did he like best? High salt processed meat. What do you do? Starve them?

That ham is 97% fat free. Maybe a cheaper ham would have more fat, to help weight gain?

Never had an issue with the fat content of processed meats - they're great in moderation if you (human) is on a diet. They're just laden with salt - because that's what curing is - the process of preserving flesh in salt.
Trouble is, when animals of a much smaller mass ingest it, the levels of salt per BMI are so much higher. And it's not part of their natural diet. It isn't healthy. I'm not criticizing Jinx - I asked her a question to see if she was aware of the issue and she is.

Maybe Bruce, I just bought that kind because the boy also likes it, for omlettes and stuff. I should look and see what else is there though. Dennis went from refusing to try anything, (apparently hates all forms of seafood except tuna and the mercury in that freaked me out) to gobbling up that ham so I just went with it...
It definitely has a lot of salt SG, 690mgs in 2oz. Would be a lot easier if he'd just eat goddamn cat food.

Maybe you could go out on the farms and catch him some mice. You know, in your spare time.

Over here you can get frozen packs of meat for animal consumption. Includes bonemeal, which is the next best thing for cats that won't eat actual bones (or if you fear them yourself). Sold in pet supermarkets. Mostly for working dogs but just check the labels.
I know a meat & bones diet does not appeal to every cat owner, all I can say is Diz is doing well on it. He's gaining weight here because he sneaks Mia's food (full fat cat beebles avilable 24-7). But before that he was the sleekest and healthiest cat I've ever seen. Oh and Bruce - don't tempt me ![]() FTR - as if to prove that a cat needs to hunt, Diz has just come in with a soiled mush. I know what this means. I left the back door ajar so I could hear when the tumble drier had finished (Grandad's shirts). He's been out after worms again. Diz, not Grandad. Filthy beggar.

Just to update - I went downstairs to find a live wriggling worm (avec soil) in my my Mum's nice beige sofa.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Came here before washing the dirt (from the clean up) from under my nails. Off for a scrub at such high temps it might remove my fingerprints. Bad Diz.

![]() Best Beloved and I are regularly wakened in the night by the sound of "CRUNCH CRUNCH" as the cats eat their warm, caught-on-the-hoof snacks on the bedroom floor in the middle of the night ...
