I am not in favor of the U.N. trying to dictate ANY policy inside the borders of the United States. The U.N. is a paper tiger anyway. Just watch and see how hard and fast the latest sanctions against Iran are enforced.

The U.N. has no authority to dictate laws about firearms in the U.S. Any laws passed will not be recognized by me or the millions of other gun owners in this country. Period.

As I understand the proposed UN treaty, it addresses the issue of the illegal international sale or smuggling of conventional weapons...from land mines to small arms. The draft is based on current US policies...the intent is to standardize it internationally.

There is nothing in the proposal that would have any impact on owners of handguns, unless you are a smuggler.

It is much like many other existing treaties that deal with illegal activities across national borders.

Further, as a treaty, it would require 2/3 vote in the Senate....so anything that even has whiff of possibly being an infringement of Second Amendment rights would never see the light of day. IMO, the idea that it is a backdoor approach to getting at the guns of gun owners is nonsense.

What I think it as objective article.
