Fractured Tibia & Fibula Due to Erotic Dancing
Every now and again one of our physicians brings important medical journal articles to our attention.
Usually this is related to an interesting clinical case presentation of some psychiatric issue. Tonight was a little different. I present for your consideration Fractured Tibia & Fibula Due to Erotic Dancing Yes. That is really what it says. In brief, there is a popular local dance in Trinidad & Tobago, called 'wining' (described in the article) that has resulted in injury to some people who attempt it. There are a couple of nasty pre-reduction x-rays of injury, along with a charming picture of a gentleman who is likely one of the article's authors demonstrating the dance (although this would have been much more instructive as video rather than a still image.) The conclusion reached by the authors appears to be that this is a dance that should not be attempted by fat, drunken tourists. As if that were not bad enough ... younger males who attempt this dance also face danger ... one far greater than a broken leg. Quote:
Kids, don't try this at home.
