Self-harming Paralympic Athletes

I had never heard of this before. It was interesting to read but I'm sure my face looked like I was sucking a lemon while I read it. Athletes with spinal injuries apparently do not get the same blood pressure raise that occurs naturally for able-bodied athletes when they engage in hard physical activity. So they induce it arftificially through pain/injury. Including breaking toes and electric shocks to the testicles. WTF? ouch. No pain no gain, but ugh. It's banned, of course.....

Well, no pain really.
From what I understand they are raising their blood pressure by "pain" in the areas of their body that do not feel it. Being spinal injury athletes the injuries are inflicted below the line of paralysis.

That's what I got from a 5 Live interview with a Paralympic anyway.

the ouch was from me. The "No pain No gain pun was intentional, but alas too subtle.

Troll much?

Certainly no trolling intended.

I honestly didn't get the full significance until listening to an extended report on the radio this afternoon.
I felt the ouch and didn't think through the ramifications.

ETA Actually, although I had not reason to troll and was interested in the subject I'm pretty weary of you being hostile to me. And for no reason I can see. The above was not an attempt to correct you, it was simply more information.

What was with the dig about me and John Sellers?
I don't know him.

It's just petty.

Well now you come to mention it, this was the last straw in my getting pretty weary of you being so hostile and petty and pedantic towards me for no apparent reason and I finally decided to bite back. Maybe you just didn't realise you were doing it ......maybe it was the period when you were off your meds. But I had enough so I took a breather, and then come back to this shit. And the shit in the zombie thread and the new handle thread. And in other threads towards other posters too. But especially here to me. And it was an attempt to correct. You're always correcting people. You may call it "informing".

Damn, Foot.
I didn't read Monster's post at the time because I wanted any real or perceived to and fro to cease and knew it was better just not to know.

I honestly believed I had been civil and considerate since, to everyone. Apart from occasionally losing my temper (as I did in the ETA above) I do not think I have been hostile to any Dwellar. I don't count the trolls of course. And I may not share the same views as everyone, but personally I do not believe my posts are specifically targeted.
I do not want you to tell me exactly whay prompted the post above. I guess I can't handle the truth.

But it would be nice to have it out on the board post by post rather than having it out like this.

Obviously I need to think more and post less.

I think foot was just saying that he prefers the euphemism "editing to improve accuracy" over "correcting."

Everyone's cool. I think.

No, because he amended Monster's post so that it said "a number of people getting pretty weary".

Well, ya know... foots not the end all and be all anyway. He's usually just devisive for devisiveness sake. Just consider the source, Sundae, and dont put a whole lot of weight to it. Because this...

yeah .... no. She's a stirrer with a huge fucking spoon and several issues. one of which appears to be some drug/mental problem. What? Have you not seen how her typing and content have deteriorated recently? Then no wonder it's gone unchecked. You people don't care enough about the people you consider your "online community". You don't speak out when they get out of line (unless it's people like Me, Jim, infi, merc...... who you feel "can take it") or post like they had a character transplant. Especially if they suddenly adopt a "uber-nice-protect-underdog clique" stance. it's like the Stepford Fucking Wives.

Most of the time, the shit storms I create are due to me caring about posters going "off the rails". Sure, I dont have the people skills to be a health care professional, or a financial advisor, but when people do stuff that's contrary to their professed goals/areas of expertise/usual position/whatever, i'mm'a say it. Maybe in a way that comes across as hostile. So sue me. At least I had the balls/whatever to actually say it.

Ahh I see how this works. You post stuffs because you care, and Pico posts stuffs because she's on drugs? Well, that makes sense.

I haven't noticed any kind of a deterioration in Pico's postings. I have noticed her stick up for a few people who've been got at. Including me, as it happens. Now you can view that as some kind of drug induced character transplant, or you could wonder why she feels compelled to speak out in other peoples' defence. Maybe it's because some people in here just can't help themselves from ragging on others.
